About the whirlpools of the Naruto Strait

The Naruto Strait is located between the southwestern part of Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture and the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture.

The Naruto Strait is located between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

Since a large amount of seawater passes through the strait, "whirlpools" occur due to overlapping conditions such as topography.

The whirlpools of the Naruto Strait reach a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour and a maximum of 30 meters.

It is said to be "the best whirlpool in the world".

In addition, scholarly research has identified many types of whirlpools.

This is only the Naruto Strait.

For the above reasons, activities to have the whirlpools of the Naruto Strait registered as a World Natural Heritage Site have begun.

However, it was not certified by UNESCO because there was an artificial bridge just above the whirlpools.

Therefore, the plan was to aim for joint application in collaboration with whirlpools around the world.

The recommended point is that there is a promenade above the Naruto Strait, where you can see the whirlpools up close.

Also, you can take a closer look at the whirlpools of Naruto from the nearby observatory.

Why don't you stop by when you come to Japan?
